1. India Post

India post is world largest postal network in the world.One post office serving 7174 people and covering an area of approximately 21.2 sq. kms.FROm 23,344 post offices at the time of independence to 1,55,035 post offices as on 31.3,2008.

a). Project Arrow

Department of posts has launched a pilot project "project arrow" to lay the information for a comprehensive,long term transformation of India post.

b)IT induction

>>Imo :An online web based domestic money transmission services called Imo was launched in january 2006 which enables the customer to recieve money from any of the post office providing this service.

>>eMoney Order(eMO) :The electronic  money order,which has been launched in October 2008,facilitates transmission of ordinary money orders through electronic media without any extra charge.

>>ePayment :It is 'many to one' service through which bills  are paid by customers in post offices.

2.Information Technology

Department of Information technology(DIT} for reaching and serving the masses. the National e-governance plan (NeGP) ,approved by the Government on may 18,2006.The NeGP comprise of 27 mission mode project.NeGP is implemented at the central,state and local levels.

Under NeGP, the Government has approved the Scheme for establishing State Wide Area Networks(SWAN) across the country in 29 states/6 UTs at a total outlay of Rs.3,334 crores

>e-District,under the NeGP,aims at to target computerization of district.In january 2009 ,the pilot project went live in 6 district of Utter pradesh
>e-Samadhan,it is an online public grievance redressal system has been developed and implemented by national informatics center for the state of Himachal Pradesh
>"Prajavani" a web based petition monitoring system enabling citizens to submit their petitions through kiosk and redressal from the District collectorate has been successfully implemented and extented to 14 district of Andhra Pradesh.
