Sundar committee:Road safety and traffic management.

According to WHO statistics (year 2002) about 11.8 lakh people die every year in road accidents, the world over, of which 84,674 deaths are reported to take place in India. A study by the Planning Commission in 2002 estimated the social cost of road accidents in India at Rs.55, 000.
According to the experts at the National Transportation Planning and Research Centre (NTPRC) the number of road accidents in India is three times higher than that prevailing in developed countries. The number of accidents for 1000 vehicles in India is as high as 35 while the figure ranges from 4 to 10 in developed countries, most of them happened in Andhra Pradesh.
80% of road accidents are caused due to  human error ,further we can say lack of proper signaling arrangements on road, lack of law and order on the road, ,irregularities in giving license, driving while consumption of alcohol ,using mobile during driving ,negligence toward traffic signals.
India has not yet formulated a National Road Safety Policy. Well  ,to avoid road accident ,our government has constituted the Sundar committee that will give recommendation on road safety and traffic management.
