14)   1.Barkana Falls - Situated in the Shimoga District of Karnataka, Barkana Falls is one of the highest falls of the country. 3.Mekedaatu (Goat's Leap) -This is an attractive waterfall along the Kaveri in Bangalore Rural District. At this point, the Kaveri River flows through a deep gorge which is so narrow that one would think that a goat can leap and cross it. This place is about 90 km away from the city of Bangalore

17)   #1.Bari Doab Canal The Upper Bari Doab Canal derives its water from the Ravi River at Madhopur Barrage in Gurdaspur District. It was opened in 1879. The total length of the main canal is 520 km. The Canal irrigates about 3.5 lakh hectares of agricultural land in the districts of Gurdaspur and Amritsar in Punjab. The total length of the canal along with its distributaries is 4900 km .

#2.Agra Canal Taken off the Yamuna River from the Okhla Headworks near the Okhla Village
(New Delhi), Agra Canal passes through the Faridabad District in Haryana, and the districts of Mathura and Agra in Uttar Pradesh. It helped in the enhancement of production of wheat,
rice, sugarcane, maize, pulses, and oilseeds in its command area.


#3.Bhakra Canal The Bhakra Canal system covering a command area of about 28 lakh hectares was completed in 1954. The Bhakra Main Canal originating from Rupar is 174 km long and irrigates about 15 lakh hectares of agricultural land. It has two branches: (i) paved-Bhakra J Canal, and (ii) unpaved—Fatehgarh Branch. This canal played a very vital role in making Green 1 Revolution a big success in the states of Punjab and Haryana.

#4.Indira Gandhi Canal (Rajasthan) Taken out of the Harika Barrage in Punjab, the Indira Gandhi Canal is 468 km in length. It irrigates the Ganganagar, Bikaner, and Jaisalmer districts of the state of Rajasthan. The canal has brought prosperity to these districts as wheat, cotton, rice, oilseeds, and pulses are coming out as a good crop in its command area. Some good I pastures, however, have been waterlogged and become the breeding grounds of mosquitoes.

#5.Nira Canal This canal has been taken out of the Bhima River—a tributary of the Krishna River. It provides irrigation in the states of Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh. The main crops irrigated by this canal are sugarcane, cotton, maize, vegetables, and orchards. The canal has brought prosperity in its command area.
18)   #6. Sirhind Canal This is an important canal taken out at the Barrage of Madhopur on the Ravi River where it enters the plains. This canal irrigates the Bari Doab in West Punjab as far south as the Sutlej. A link canal takes surplus water from the Ravi to the Beas supplementing the flow of the Sutlej at the Harike Barrage. The Bari-Doab Canal has helped in making diffusion of High Yielding Varieties of rice and wheat in this part of Punjab.

# 2. Aswan Dam - the name of two dams on the Nile River in Egypt. The first dam at Aswan, designed for irrigation and flood control, was completed in 1902. The second, called the Aswan High Dam, was built a short distance upstream from the first dam and was completed in 1970. It is considered one of the world's largest power-irrigation projects.

# 3. Gaza Strip - a region on the southeastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea between Israel and the Sinai Peninsula of Egypt. It was established by the Egyptian-Israeli armistice agreement in 1949 as a home for Palestinian refugees displaced by the creation of Israel. The strip is about 25 miles (40 km) long and 5 to 7 miles (8 to 11 km) wide, with an area of 146 square miles (378 km 2 ). It is on a semiarid, mostly barren coastal plain. Gaza is the principal city.

Koyna Project This project was constructed across the Koyna River in Satara District (Maharashtra) to generate electricity. Its installed capacity was 860 MW. The power generated is supplied to the cities of Mumbai and Pune.
Mula Project This is a multi-purpose project in the upper reaches of the Godavari River. It generates hydro-electricity, provides water for irrigation and controls floods and soil erosion. The power generated here is supplied to the neighbouring towns and cities.
